Potty training woes...the misery of my life

Richard has been using the potty quite successfully for a few months now. However; he only uses it for #1. We have battled #2 for just as long. I have tried bribes, punishment for poopy pants, and even put him back in diapers for a day (he totally hated that). Well, while we were in Jackson, Bonnie's son Gordon told Richard that in order to join the "Big Boys Poo Club" he would need to poop in the potty. It worked!!! Thank you Gordon, now, he is back to pooping his pants. I told him we would have to call Gordon and tell him he is out of the Poo Club until he gets it in the pot, that made Richard real sad. I even bought him Spiderman sheets as his reward I had promised. The same day he pooped his pants, so off went the sheets. I don't know what to do!!! He will tell me he has to poop and will go sit on the toilet but then says, "Oh! I can't go," and tries to get off. I've tried everything I can think of and have even just let him poop his pants, no stress of getting in trouble. Maybe Gordon can come live with us for a few weeks. :) Anyone have any good advice for the situation?

  1. Let's be real here: I have no idea how to potty train. lol. But I noticed on the Today show today that they had a segment called the Potty Whisperer. LOL. And I thought of you (after I had read your post). So here is the link to the video of the potty whisperer:

I watched it. Don't know that there will be anything ground breaking for you, but maybe one tidbit might help.

Good luck!!! In a couple years...I'll be trying to figure that all out! Counting down to those days.....

  2. Jaxon loved the movie I think it's called "potty time" and you can just rent it from the library. But it's extremely weird, as all potty training movies are, and you'll be singing the song, but I had it recommended to me by several people and it worked great for him. Maybe worth a try. Good luck!

  3. Just give it a rest and keep him in potty training pants. Obviously he is not ready if he keeps pooping his pants. Punishments and putting so much emphasis on him pooping where he is supposed too makes a child frusterated and they resist that much more. I would just wait till he brings it up and then start the potty training over again. I did this with Brie, we took a break and finally she said she wanted to use the potty and then she was potty trained in two weeks but it took me 8 months before I finally just backed off until she was ready.
